Españoleta: Dances from Baroque Spain and the New World
Chatham Baroque's Andrew Fouts (baroque violin), Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba), and Scott Pauley (theorbo, baroque guitar) are joined by virtuoso percussionist and long-time collaborator Danny Mallon for a program of 17th and 18th century Spanish and Latin American dance music. Hear sultry tunes to accompany the Zarabanda and the forbidden Fandango alongside lively renditions of the Canarios, Jota, and Españoleta. Penned long ago by composers Gaspar Sanz and Santiago de Murcia, or culled from archives in the New World, this music is brought to life anew in Chatham Baroque’s celebrated arrangements, audience favorites for more than 20 years and the subject of Chatham Baroque's acclaimed CD, Españoleta.
