Chatham Baroque's Andrew Fouts (baroque violin), Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba), and Scott Pauley (theorbo, baroque guitar) are joined by violinist Paul Miller for a program showcasing the passion and fire of the Italian Baroque. As the Italian cantata was a vehicle to showcase vocal facility and expression, so was the sonata meant to transfix with instrumental virtuosity. Passion and esprit unfettered by words. The zenith of the form is represented on this program featuring sensational trio sonatas by high Baroque masters Antonio Vivaldi and Arcangelo Corelli, as well as fantastic and imaginative works by their predecessors Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Mealli, Dario Castello, and Giovanni Battista Fontana.

One of the foremost proponents of the instrument, Paul Miller will also play his viola d’amore, an ethereal and magical early bowed instrument with over a dozen strings. Hear for yourself why it is so aptly named!
